I used the window and a few other inexpensive materials to make one of my favorite works of art in my home:
Here's how I did it.
1. CLEAN! The window had been sitting outside for years. It was completely dirty. I used a dry cleaning brush to remove all of the loose dirt. Then, I simply used windex on the glass panes and a damp cloth on the wood.
2. I liked the way the window looked with the original white paint and years of wear and character. So, I chose not to paint my window. If you would like to paint yours, simply sand down the current paint and wood, prime and paint any color you wish. (Don't forget to tape the glass panes with painters tape for easy clean up)
3. I picked out a craft paper to use for the back. I originally thought about using fabric, but it was harder to adhere to the back and it was 5 times the price. You can get craft paper like the one I used at your local art store or from The Paper Studio. Make sure you buy large format paper so you don't have to worry about any seems. You can even use a beautiful wrapping paper!
4. Adhering the paper to the back of the window frame was easy. I simply used scotch tape so that I could easily move it back and forth until the design lined up the way I wanted. Then, I stapled the paper into place.
Voila!
